The pressure relief valves used in raritan water heaters are set for 75 psi or 210 f.
Boat hot water heater leaking. Finding a replacement relief valve was impossible. My first thought was that the problem was with the pressure relief valve so i ordered a replacement. Since the water is heated to engine coolant temp a little bit of water that hot goes a long way. Pressure valve leak too.
For essentially no cost after the hookup is done you have hot water on the boat very hot water any time the engines are running and warmed up. Typically only one engine is used unless you have more than one hot water heater. A leaking drain valve can be identified by moisture or water dripping either out of the drain opening or around the valve itself. The heat exchanger heats the fresh water inside the water heater.
Welp i started her up for the first time last weekend and it runs like a dream except for the water leaking into the bilge. You can safely bypass the water heater by disconnecting the 2 red hoses at the water heater and connecting them together with a hose fitting and hose clamps. The hot sea water is circulated thru these hoses to a heat exchanger coil inside your water heater. Later that day i found a substantial amount of hot water in the bilge.
After searching the entire boat for a presure leak that caused the pump to cycle every 10 seconds i discovered that the pressure relief valve on the hot water heater was trickling into the bilge through its overflow hose. The two most common reasons for a hot water heater relief valve leaking are excessive temperature or excessive pressure. Windsmaker i had the same problem on my b361. If water temperature or pressure inside the tank exceeds these limits the valve will unseat.
See the article electric water heater repair and troubleshooting for information on removing the heating element and replacing the gasket. With electric water heaters leaks can spring from the gaskets that seal the heating elements to the tank turn off the electrical power and shut off the tank s water supply. Leaks from electric water heater s heating element gasket. It s rare that a hot water heater re.
That was a 2gn20f though the coolant was green antifreeze. All water heaters have a drain near the bottom of the unit so that the tank can be emptied before removal or during routine cleaning of the tank itself. If engine coolant is used in a raritan water heater with a heat exchanger some of the engine coolant may have to be diverted via a bypass valve to insure that the water in the tank does not exceed the limits of. Check to make sure that the bottom valve is fully closed by turning the valve control clockwise.
This season when i recommissioned the boat i filled the boat s fresh water tanks and turned on the water heater.
