Betta Spits Out Food After Eating
I got a betta fish three days ago from petsmart.
Betta spits out food after eating. I have good experiance with bettas i bread then and collect but they do tend to spit there food out after eating so just give him time to ajust to the food you are giving him her and after they ajust to the food it may still happen here and there if the way he is eatting does not stop and you are noticeing that your betta is slimming down then change food immediatly. Your betta s stomach is roughly the size of its eyeball and some pellets are even bigger than that. But betta fish will spit out food. Try some live bloodworms or live brine shrimp if all else fails either one will almost always entice your betta into eating.
Clean water parameters are huge for having a healthy fish. Once he s done it like 3 times. My suggestion is to switch to a different type of betta food and give him a treat often like blood worms. He looks excited to eat and quickly goes for it like always.
This too is common behavior and it s believed to be a mechanism for breaking down and softening the food. Most fish keepers simply don t feed them when on vacation for example. Hello all recently my 4 5 month old betta fish started spitting out his food. My fish splash hates flakes and will only eat pellets.
My last fish did not eat for like 1 week. And when you over feed your fish and that food gets spit out it sinks to the bottom of your tank and makes for bad water quality for the water and filter. I ll just take the pellets out. He might like it better if you soak it first.
Bettas often do not prefer flakes and will eat them at the last resort. Sometimes he will eat them after a while. I also tried flakes but he completely ignored them. Today i got bloodworms and again he ate them and spit them back out almost immediately.
Currently i ve tried hikari betta bio gold hikari vibra bites fluval bug bites and some cheap betta pellets from lfs which all either spitted out or ignored by him. I m trying to feed him every other day 3 pellets. He might prefer frozen or living food. I called petsmart and asked them what they thought.
But he may not like the brand you are feeding. He grabs the pellet nods his head swims around for a minute and then spits. So in a lot of cases your betta will spit food out a couple of times because he literally can t swallow it. I tried feeding him pelleted food and he immediately spit it out after eating it.
The day after i got him i tried to feed him but he just spit them out. The most common reason your betta is spitting out food is simply that it s too big. I got my crown tail male betta about 8 or 9 days ago and i m starting to get really concerned. He did eat vibra bites during the first two days but then he would spit it out after the third day and finally ignore them afterward regardless of the food i tried.
Only feed your betta what you can visually see him or her eat within 2 minutes. However this doesn t mean he s not eating. Don t be alarmed if the betta spits out its food. And then spits it out and eats it and spits it out again.
